At Sonara Music Center in Summerville, SC, children learn more than how to play an instrument. They build confidence, discipline, creativity, focus, and a genuine love for music.
Our Philosophy
Every child is different
We believe music education should begin with the child — not with a rigid program.
Before we teach technique, we take time to understand each student’s personality, interests, strengths, pace, and learning style.
Some children are confident from the first lesson. Others need time. Some love to perform. Others prefer to observe before they participate.
At Sonara, we adapt the approach so every child can feel comfortable, make progress, and enjoy coming back.
Our goal is not to force children to learn music — it is to help them want to continue.

Meet the Founder
Dr. Alina Hale
Dr. Alina Hale is the founder of Sonara Music Center, an accomplished musician and educator with more than 30 years of teaching experience.
She began studying violin at age 3, won her first music competition at age 8, and later chose harp as her primary instrument.
Throughout her career, she has earned awards at international music competitions, performed with symphony and opera orchestras, and taught students in South Carolina, Utah, and Sweden, including university and private instruction.
Dr. Hale holds two PhDs — in Music History and Harp Performance.
Many of her students have also become competition winners, reflecting both her professional background and her ability to recognize and develop each student’s potential.

Professional Music Education
A Strong Musical Foundation from the Start
Our teaching combines principles of the Suzuki Method, classical music education, and the experience of conservatory-trained teachers.
Students learn through:
- real instruments from the first lesson;
- ear training and rhythm development;
- music reading and solfège;
- age-appropriate technique;
- individually selected repertoire;
- ensemble playing and performance opportunities.
We do not use the same program for every student. Lessons are adapted to age, level, character, and goals.
More Than Music
Skills that grow with your child
Music develops far more than the ability to perform a piece.
Through regular lessons, children strengthen:
Confidence
They experience progress, achievement, and performance.
Discipline
They learn to work toward a goal step by step.
Focus & Memory
Music trains concentration, listening, and attention.
Creativity
Children learn to express ideas and emotions.
Coordination
Playing an instrument develops fine motor skills and body awareness.
Teamwork
Group classes and ensembles teach children to listen, cooperate, and support one another.
Stage Presence
Performance becomes a natural part of building confidence.
A Place to Learn, Grow & Belong
More Than Lessons — A Musical Community
At Sonara, children do not just come to class and leave.
They learn alongside others, make friends, play together, prepare for performances, and become part of a supportive musical community.
Small-group programs help children learn to listen, take turns, communicate, and grow together.
We want every student to feel:
seen, supported, and proud of their progress.
Real results and visible progress
Parents need to see how their child is developing.
That is why we maintain ongoing communication with families, sharing updates on students' progress and adjusting the learning plan whenever necessary.
We also offer:
- regular video progress reports;
- two showcase concerts per year;
- participation in competitions and additional performances (optional);
- preparation for auditions and admission to specialized arts programs.
About 90% of our students continue their studies for more than a year, and we have conducted over 3,000 lessons since we began.
